Portulacaria afra or Jade plants are evergreen, succulent shrubs. Small, roundish , green flesshy leaves are carried on thickened coloured stems. They can when mature and in the right environment bare small star-shaped flowers usually pink.

Suited to most soil types but prefers fertile, well drained soil. Tolerant of partial shade, light frost, coastal condition and extended dry periods once established. They are usually quite well suited to growing indoors in Tasmania.
